The photography series “Working Class” consciously began in 2010. The idea was born after escorting construction projects and meeting the workers of those projects. Later on, of course, the world of the working class expanded to other places.
During the last few years, every time I see a worker, I find myself wanting to take pictures from a place of empathy. Photographic process is very simple, Documentary, as I like. It gives the character the opportunity to meet his compliance as it feels, as he likes.
I try to choose the background out of the space where the character is. The “occasion” is the moment when the photographed gets ready for the photo. The occasion does not change. This moment is always very crucial for the photographed. As a photographer, you don’t have much time in this dialog. There is a short moment in which the senses do the talking and then I freeze time.
During time, the photographed in the series becomes the “occasion”, as well as a kid with a Barcelona jersey who is “caught” in the camera lens while playing a game.
I love that dialog between me, as a photographer who creates that “occasion” and the photographed. It relates to the art work “I want to show an attractive man in photos” I presented during the nineties with my partner Nir Nadder.
